Masonry bench

100 years after the dawn of architectural modernism at Weissenhof Stuttgart, the International Building Exhibition 2027 StadtRegion Stuttgart is looking for the future of building and living together. For their first festival in summer 2023, IBA´27 invited us to create an installation for their festival headquarter in Stuttgart. In this installation we visualize the transformation process of old bricks and tiles into a new building material, which then was translated into a public bench. The public bench Masonry bench is casted with a mineral binder created from old roof tiles and ash from the Schlossgarten in Stuttgart. The adaptive design draws inspiration from ancient polygonal masonry, employing flush adjacent individual volumes that stabilize each other.
